Constitution

Article I. Name of Organization

The name of this organization shall be the Black Student Alliance of George Mason University, hereafter referred to as the BSA.

Article II. Purpose
  1. Improve both George Mason University and the Fairfax communities.
  2. Communicate needs and concerns of Black students to the administration and general university community.
  3. Enrich student life culturally, intellectually and socially.
  4. To advocate the recruitment for Black students, faculty and staff by the university.
  5. Promote unity within campus, administration and student organizations.
  6. To serve as a support organization for other Black organizations on the grounds of GMU.
  7. To serve the collaborative needs of all African Americans organizations and the African American student body.
Article III. Membership

Membership in the Black Student Alliance is open to the entire GMU community. Membership in this organization will not be restricted on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, sex or age.

  1. Student must be an enrolled GMU student with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 and in good academic standing.
  2. Members of this organization are considered active upon completion of the BSA interest form and payment of fiscal dues.
    1. Active Members, in addition to completing the interest form, must also serve on at least one committee. Active members are allowed to run for office and vote.
    2. Associate Members, in addition to completing the application, support but do not actively engage or attend all BSA events and meetings.
    3. Fiscal dues will be $10.00 and must be paid in order to be considered active.
Article IV. Organizational Structure
  1. The General Body shall consist of the entire membership of the Black Student Alliance at George Mason University, including active and associate members.
  2. The Executive Board shall include the President, Vice President, Corresponding Secretary, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Webmaster, Advisor, and Co-Advisor.
  3. The Committees shall consist of BSA members who have expressed an interest in a particular committee.
