GSCS Committees, 2006-2007

The following is a list of the officer positions within GSCS and a brief description of each. Current officers and representatives are listed next to the position. If you are interested in any positions or committees, or want to see something specific discussed, communicated or explained, feel free to contact any of the listed persons, either through the GSCS email address (gscs@gmu.edu) or through their individual addresses.

GSCS CO-PRESIDENTS:

The role of the Co-Presidents is to coordinate activities throughout the year, to collect ideas and problems, and to deliver these to the appropriate people and places. The Co-Presidents also serve as liaison to the Director of ICAR.

SECRETARY-TREASURER:
Vandy Kanyako (PhD) vkanyako@gmu.edu

The GSCS Secretary-Treasurer is responsible for taking notes at the GSCS meetings and writing a summary for the record. In addition, is responsible for maintaining the financial records of the organization and, with the Co-Presidents, is the chief signatory on the student account. The Secretary-Treasurer also prepares the budget requests for student events funding.

There is one PhD and one MS representative on the faculty board. Their responsibilities are to attend the monthly faculty meetings, speak to issues that affect students, and ensure that information and concerns from the faculty are communicated to ICAR students.

There is also one PhD and one MS representative on the ICAR Advisory Board (an independent Board which both advises ICAR and works in various ways on ICAR's behalf). The student representatives attend Advisory Board meetings and ensure communication between the Board and students.

The Curriculum committee acts as liaison between the faculty committee and the student body regarding the addition or continuation of new classes, the removal of existing classess from the roster and other issues having to do with curriculum development.
