Milestones
Students' thoughts and impressions of the trip.
- "It is only a few days since my return from Israel on the Birthright Israel 2000 program and I am already looking forward to
going back. The trip slogan, "the experience is priceless" really is true. I left for Israel a tourist and returned a pilgram."
-- Mike Ickowitz, junior, Communications, January 21, 2000
- "It was great to be around so many Jews, because on campus I'm not."
-- Alex Berens, Senior, DMIS major
- Israel was one of if not the best time of my life. The land there has some kind of historical and spiritual feeling that I have never
seemed to feel here. It is so cool going to a country and be in the majority. I am thinking about going to summer school in Israel.
This trip was difinitely one of the greatest gifts that anyone has ever given. I think that you have to actually go to Israel to understand
what I mean about the land. My favorite spots were Safat and the Western Wall. Very meaningful!
-- Jonathan "JT" Nebb, junior, Communications
- The biggest impact that I felt in israel wasn't the historical sites or just being in the Holy Land. It was the fact that I shared the
experience with so many other Jewish students, especially the ones that I got to know. It is exciting to now have multiple Jewish friends
and to be able to share our Israel experience together and to make to memories together. I already enjoy spending free time with new
friends that I have made as a result of this trip. It means more because of what I have when I got home. I fully expect to return in a few years.
-- Pete Bobolia, junior, Public Administation
"Instead of passing through Israel, I let Israel pass through me."
-- Peter Bobolia, junior
