Benedict Arnold Is Not Dead, But Alive And Well At Lockheed

Lockheed Corporation has done more damage to American defense than Benedict Arnold, but in some ways both of their betrayals are similar. General Arnold gave up the strategic fort of West Point, that controlled the river that controlled the course of the war, and Lockheed gave up the strategic missile technology that controls outer space that will control the course of the next war.

The problem in both cases is the shock of betrayal rather than the extent of the damage, although with Lockheed we may not know the extent of the damage until one fine day we all wake up dead from a Chinese Nuclear First Strike. Who would have thought an American General would betray his country at the very peak of The War for Independence. That was the real damage then, and it is the real damage now at this time. Right now it is the shame of having an American defense contractor consort with the putative enemy. It this the portent of things to come?

Lockheed, which has an honorable past where it produced the planes that helped win WW II, has been a sacred institution that, seemingly, could be trusted. But, no! “Et tu Brute?”

Let’s not talk about the letter of the law, although Lockheed broke that too. Let’s talk about the spirit of the law. Lockheed is not an innocent. They are virtual partners with our military in defending this country. This company has eaten at our table for decades, no questions asked, and turned and put a knife in our back.

Where is the loyalty that goes beyond the letter of the law, that goes to caring about America? No amount of artful dodging by fork-tongued lawyers convinces anyone. Lockheed danced with the devil in the pale moonlight, and Armageddon may be the fruit of that unholy dalliance. How could such people participate in what they knew with total certainty was inimical to the National Interest? They are not babes in the woods but seasoned cold-warriors.

They plunged the knife for paltry few 30 pieces of silver. The Judas’ in the company responsible for this should be driven out ignominiously into the night to take their own lives in shame, as should all such. Treason must bear a heavy price, and our government and people must put the fear of endless punishment, if not the fear of God, into any who even think of such an act in the future.
