Patriots Voice News                    Harvard, Education?

Want to know what’s wrong with American education, or even America? Here it is, punch line first – Harvard University, as if you couldn’t have guessed. And as frosting on the cake, here’s the ironclad, 14 Carat Gold evidence.

Regis, host of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” had this highly professional graduate of Harvard University Law School on the show. He “earned” his undergraduate degree in English Literature and his graduate degree in Law, and here are the questions he was asked and his answers. Now wait a minute! He is not to be blamed for the inferior education that Harvard gave him. It is Harvard that is ruining the Country, not the victims that graduate from there.

He was first asked which of four words were not in the Constitution. One of them was Democracy. He couldn’t do it. He used one of his helps and they took away two of the wrong answers, leaving two, one of which was the right answer. They were Justice and Democracy. After a good deal of sweating he guessed that it might be Democracy and that was the right answer. Several people with me were watching and all of them guessed immediately that it was Democracy. Anyone with his kind of educational credentials should have known the founding fathers more or less “hated” the word Democracy and rarely used it, and certainly not in the Constitution. But how would a Harvard Law graduate possibly be taught that?

The next question was, what poet wrote the line, “No man is an island.” John Donne’s name was among those listed. Again, after much sweating, hemming and hawing he did guess right. Again everyone in our control group at home guessed right in the first second or two after the list was complete. It was John Donne, and he got it right. But this is a question most high school kids would get right away, it being a favorite of Liberal teachers. Especially, as it is purported to provide justification for government welfare programs, in that it implies that we are our brother’s keeper, and consequently, as Democrat government now does everything else for us, it only makes sense that they should keep all our “brothers” as well, by, of course, putting them on government welfare.

The final exam question for our mighty veteran of Harvard Academe was, what was Lolita’s given name?  Now, most ordinary people might not know it was Dolores, but anyone who received a BA in English from Harvard should know it. Our hero couldn’t pick out Dolores from Charlotte and two other choices and so took his winnings and quit. Regis offered him the chance to guess, just for fun, and he did, wrongly. He chose Charlotte, which was the name of Lolita’s mother.

Well, now you have the evidence, what do you think? Oh, one other thing. This really nice guy with the degrees in English and Law from Harvard, reads scripts for Hollywood producers, and in a rush of honesty, admitted out of hand that he read the script for “Saving Private Ryan” and told his boss to turn it down, as the story was not very interesting, or something to that effect. Shortly thereafter Spielberg bought it and made it into a blockbuster pro-American movie. One can’t help but think that with all that patriotism in the script, our hero’s Harvard education made him instinctively recoil against “Saving Private Ryan.”

Now, this contestant, individually, was an altogether fine person who conducted himself in a commendatory way. It is only to take Harvard to task, in a not very tongue in cheek way, that his story is recounted.  This man should ask for his tuition money back from Harvard.

Your comments will be appreciated. The attempt here, as in much of what we present, is to give students and the general public a focused, working, knowledge on as many topics as possible in as concentrated a form as possible. In this age of information-overload we want our donors to read less with greater effect. We make no pretense, (and that is what it is,) of objectivity. No one is, or can be, objective. They can only pretend to be. We have a subjective viewpoint, and it is transparent. If you think we have overlooked something that could help our benefactors and supporters, let us know. Obviously, we have generalized and exercised selectivity in the service of honesty, brevity and clarity.
