Center for Global Education (CGE) offers 25 Programs

Assalamu Alaikum!

Dear Members of the GMU Muslim Student Association and friends in Global Education:

This summer the Center for Global Education (CGE) offers 25 Programs that are open to all Mason students and any member of the general public. I feel especially compelled to let you know about four programs in the Middle East because I believe it is as important as ever for us to encourage global education and awareness. Besides being based in the Middle East and offering college credits, each of the following trips also include excursions, opportunities to visit nearby cities or points of historical and cultural interest.

Professor Sana Hilmi will lead a group to Jordan for intensive Arabic Language studies. I recommend emailing her for more program details by clicking on her name. Professor Sumaiya Hamdani, of Mason's History and Art History department, will lead a group to Egypt and Tunisia. Browse some stunning photos from a past trip by clicking here.  Basam Haddad, a Professor of Political Science from Mason's Public & International Affairs Department, will lead a trip to Syria. Participants in that program will consider important questions regarding the political, historical, and cultural dimensions of contemporary Syria. And last but not least, Professor Yehuda Lukacs will again be leading a group to Israel & Palestine for an 8 week Internship Program where participants will apply their skills and passion and participate in day-to day activities that will acquaint them with the intricacies of life in that region.

If any of these programs sound interesting, please don't hesitate to call Lamyaa El-Fadaly very soon at 703.993.2161 or send her an email at lelfadal@gmu..edu. The deadline to register for our programs is a week from today, April 4, so the time to act is now. Should we work together to generate enough interest, the Director of CGE may even extend the deadline.

Thanks for taking time to read this email, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Cisco- Open Position in the Middle East

Assalaam Alykum,
Cisco is a global organization that is now hiring in the middle East. There are two openings for Middle Eastern Nationals or those who are willing to relocate (*Saudis are highly encouraged).

Please Let me know if you know anyone who is going to be interested in these job descriptions: Email brother Saleh Albarmawi: Saleh.albarmawi (at) gmail.com

the top one is for experienced 3-5 yrs...the second one Entry Level trainning to hire.

----------------------------------
First Position:

Cisco's new Global Talent Acceleration Program (GTAP) provides an outstanding opportunity for aspiring talent in key emerging regions.  We are actively seeking referrals to quality, high potential candidates in the Middle East. Specifically, we need your referrals to candidates who will fill our Professional NCE (pNCE) track. These are people who have 3 to 5 years of Cisco networking experience, and who possess the work ethic and aptitude to integrate well into Cisco's dynamic, collaborative culture.

GTAP is a proactive new Program that develops home-grown talent in Emerging Countries where highly skilled resources have traditionally been scarce.  GTAP focuses on creating a sustainable, long term service infrastructure that is critical to Cisco's success in these high growth markets, and that contributes to the long term well being and economic growth of host countries.

This unique Program encompasses training and transitioning to service delivery, thereby developing candidates' technical as well as professional skills.  During the 6-month pNCE curriculum, students will be employed and salaried by a Cisco partner while participating in training in Amman, Jordan.  Following the training, it is Cisco's intention for successful candidates to be absorbed into the Advanced Services or Emerging Markets Technology Practices organizations.

Learning is done in small groups, enabling GTAP to put strong emphasis on skills development, mentorship, and real customer scenarios.

Please contact us if you know of a candidate in these regions who may qualify, for the upcoming cohorts, we are seeking Saudi, Lebanese, Egyptian, Moroccan and Algerian passport holders.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Second Position:

This is the second Cisco program in the Middle East.  As I understand, all the students in this program are Saudi (expect for a handful).  So, if we know anyone in that area or if you are interested in Riyadh, please let me know.  I know two managers personally - they were in the Cisco program with me in the US.
Team,

Sister Looking For Housing

Assalamu Alaikum

Dear MSA members

My name is Hoda Osman, an Egyptian PhD student attending GMU (Fairfax) starting the fall semester 2008. I'm supposed to arrive at Fairfax approximately on the 20th or 21st of August.

I started looking for a place on craigslist and got some opportunities with female roommates, but I'd rather have Muslim sisters as roommates.

The ideal place I'm looking for is a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom in an apartment or a townhouse that is either a walking distance to campus or conveniently located on a bus route. I'm very clean and organized and in need for a quiet place to focus on my studies.

I would appreciate it if any sister lives in or knows about a place where I can move in around the mentioned date.

May Allah reward you.

Hoda G. Osman
