One Nation Under God

Dear friends,

My dear friends,

Since Wednesday, from San Francisco to Washington D.C., Americans all across the country have been reacting to a court's ruling that the Pledge of Allegiance with a phrase "one nation, under God." is unconstitutional.

This time politicians immediately line up to condemn the decision. The entire Senate eventually showed up in Thursday morning prayer to affirm that the United States of America is "one nation, under God."

"We acknowledge the separation of sectarianism and state, but affirm the belief that there is no separation between God and state," Senate Chaplain Lloyd Ogilvie said during the prayer. Later a nearly full House gathered moments all representatives recited the pledge, and followed by a sustained standing ovation. Some House members then joined their hands to sing the first line of "God Bless America."

Even President Bush joined the argument. "America is a nation ... that values our relationship with an Almighty," he said, "The declaration of God in the Pledge of Allegiance doesn?t violate rights. As a matter of fact, it?s a confirmation of the fact that we received our rights from God, as proclaimed in our Declaration of Independence."

Do you think that as the legislative body the Congress deliberately violates the First Amendment of Constitution by taking this move of affirmation? What does the First Amendment of Constitution say? Is it true that the United States is a "nation under God"? Does it matter if God exist? And the ultimate question would turn to be an old question: Does God really exist?

If you don't know the answers, the questions are yours. So, why don't you join us this Friday evening to have a discussion?

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance." (Psalm 33:12)
