So You Want To Be A Delta?

If you have come to a place where you feel as though you want to pursue membership into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. we have some advice to give you that MAY help you in your pursuit.

* Nothing is guaranteed

Unlike other Sororities, Delta Sigma Theta is a Service Sorority which means that in everything we do, we do it to SERVE!

Stepping, Party Hopping, Wearing Letters, and being popular may appear to be good reasons for wanting to be a Delta but REALIZE that those are only the visible factors of being Greek.

If you really want to be a Delta look closer into the lives of those whom surround you. The more you do your research the more you will realize that collectively Deltas makeup a large network of SERVICE .

Leadership

Deltas are Leaders. Being able to set positive trends for others to follow is always commendable. A good leader may not always be the most popular person, yet a good leader is dedicated, dependable, and always on top of things. Getting involved in other positive organizations and holding a leadership position shows that you are capable of doing the work of Delta. Above all a good leader is devoted to the cause of his/her organization. As leaders in Delta we strive to serve the community and continually set positive examples for others to follow.

I have good leadership skills and I do a lot of service what other advice could you give me to help me in my pursuit of being a member?

Scholarship

Deltas are scholars. Together we make up over 250,000 college educated women. Excelling academically is a must for Delta Sigma Theta. Education is a never-ending quest and we will continue to excel because Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom! If you cannot handle your classes at this time and your grades are suffering then maybe it is not the right time for you. Always remember that you are a STUDENT first and nothing or no one should take the place of your academics.

If you believe that you have all of these qualities that is GREAT but you also want to be sure that you are willing to make a FINANCIAL commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority? It's not enough to pay to pledge - Delta's business takes ONGOING financial support.

In Conclusion…

Many are called but FEW are chosen, if you are unable to pinpoint your assets, members will not be able to either.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is NOT a SOCIAL ORGANIZATION, nor do we RECRUIT! We are a SERVICE ORGANIZATION, and if a potential member is given the privilege of an invite to join our Supreme Sisterhood, she must come prepared to WORK !

A wise Soror once said…

"Do not bring your NOTHINGNESS to Delta!"

Will you be an active member?

The kind that would be missed

Or will you just be content

That your name is on the list?

Will you attend the meetings?

And mingle with the flock

Or will you just meet in private

And criticize and "knock?"

Will you take an active part?

To help the work along

Or will you be satisfied to be

The kind that just belongs?

Will you work on committees?

To these is no trick

Or leave the work to just a few

And talk about the clique?

Please come to meetings often

And help with hand and true heart

Don't just be a member,

But one who takes an active part

Think it over potential members

You know what's right from wrong

Will you be an active member?

Or do you just want to belong?

One final note...

Delta is not just a lifetime commitment... Delta is a LIFESTYLE! We do not need people who only wear t-shirts or step. If you cannot make Delta and its programmatic thrusts a prominent part of your life FOR THE REMAINDER OF YOUR LIFE , please find another sorority.
